Collection: Felsa

The Felsa Watch Company, founded in 1918 in Grenchen, Switzerland, emerged as a notable player in the Swiss watchmaking industry, initially operating as Fabrique d'Ebauches et de Finissage Felsa SA in nearby Lengnau. Joining the influential Ebauches SA group in 1928 alongside other prominent manufacturers like A. Schild and FHF, Felsa quickly established itself as an innovator, particularly under the guidance of designer Friedrich Meyer. In the 1930s and 1940s, Meyer pioneered advancements in automatic winding mechanisms, patenting a system in 1942 and introducing the groundbreaking bi-directional winding mechanism in 1947. This innovation led to the development of the renowned Bidynator movement, which gained recognition for its reliability and was adopted by prestigious brands like Breitling. Specializing in automatic movements within the Ebauches SA cartel, Felsa contributed significantly to the evolution of self-winding watches until its operations faded amid the quartz crisis of the late 20th century, leaving a lasting legacy in horological history.
